Intro & Discussion

2-6

Have a quick cover sheet showing level of effort; what is the “lift” for implementing?

Have a TOC before details with jump links from TOC to the sections.

This is what you need to do - go to Page 7”

Unclear who the audience was and who do we want to reach?

  • Needs to be in the order and style that health centers need. AllianceC designed it with the health center, so there was input on how they need to get the information.

  • Break into sections or separate docs “leadership,” for quality or (clinical workflow) roles, data and informatics.

NACHC was thinking videos -

  • Instructional? Nah.

  • Use the resources to revise guides?

  • Advertisement video? “This would really help you improve your patient outcomes because you know XYZ.” 1 minute or so, that leads them to an action plan “Here are the resources, here’s what your EHR manager can do to …” this might be required in UDS in the future..

    • get their attention first

    • Tells manager here’s why it is important and useful for my staff to spend time on it.

    • Action desired: I need to send this tool to my staff

  • One CHC Has been using an ODH approach, with ODH program, going from groups of employees to groups, like firehouse, to next essential worker jobs, but not a wider view - the nurse director is not at the level to make decisions for the entire patient population - it is a priority of her dept, but not nec of the health center as a whole.

  • Regulatory issues are at forefront of mind - workplace hazards, requirements.

  • Be more direct - start with (Jena) and here’s a link to a guide for more in-depth technical instruction and implementation.

  • THEN they need CHC training - here’s what to do and where to find it AFTER the guide.

  • Video - not necessary

Erica

Why you should care

What steps you should follow

So… how do we get HCCNs interested?

Regulatory drives - it’s the first thing. If it is required, it needs to be done - decisino-mkaingers prioritize on their basic primary needs

  1. How should we introduce these videos/resources to other HCCNs?

There is interest in ODH as a topic, given the audience at LinkedIn learning session.

(2) Where should we introduce these videos/resources to other HCCNs?

Webinars pitching to the HCCNs themselves. AC got into this because NACHC reached out. Do you think your health center would want to learn more about this, here’s something we decveloped that can help if you

Journal Club - This is a discussion. Center it around an article - the ppl who choose to attend it - HCCNs are choosing it because they are interested in topic.

Based on an article, distribute it, pre-registration, 1 to 1.5 hour. Quick refresher of article.

Discussion ask questions, reflect on what they’ve read.

How to apply findings to workflow

At the end, share resources and make connections.

Audiences: HCCN and PCAs. Ask them to partner to have a journal club/discussion on occupational health - make sure there is lots of time for discussion, and make sure people know it is discussion. HCCN PCA staff - EMR managers, PCPs, Leadership (how this adds value),

(3) Would you like to stay engaged with this process as we build these videos/resources?

(Andrea - maybe training HCCN/PCAs first to build desire to implement, then develop tools for training CHCs like agenda, slide show video on the why

Ray I noticed that too, where a lot of systemic changes from the vendors to do these implementations and customizations are limited by client-side "needs/demand" that conforms with certification+regulation)

When a CHC has a specific point person like Occ Health nurse - rules around ODH might be different per state - link to states' portfolio of occ health data - it is specialized.

Who should Action Guide be for?

  • should be a high-level one - these are current UDS requirements

  • These are likely to be implemented

  • If you want more information or you are about to implement, here are the value sets, here is a technical guide you can give to your IT staff.

The fact sheet is really all you need and reframe the steps in green - these are the tech specs for implementing.

  • Would you provide feedback?

    • Be specific about audience if HCCN PCA topic

    • or reach out to HCCNs to say would you want to partner on this - do targeted? (Andrea does not think that would as good given end of year, lack of funding, no staffing for implementation).

  • Would you help us spread the word?

NOTE: The user case was one real person with name changed - we’d want to work with AC to get permission/more generic.

2nd week of May for a webinar?

Journal Club - Occupation & Climate Health Topic

Look at a recent publication on these two topics together

  1. Message requirement or regulation UCSDI

  2. What do about it

  3. How big the lift is

    1. Who needs to be involved

    2. What are the basic steps

    3. What would this cost us?

  4. Resources - link

Invitation language

Study questions - they could help come up with study questions

Resources: Action Guide & IG

Ray will check with Stanford attendings about date around Wed May 8th.

Intro & Discussion

2-6

Disseminating in webinars or conferences where there’s face to face interaction helps to get them into the health centers. NACHC conferences CHI and P&I.

email blasts and posts are not as effective -

the Guides are thorough, but we need a one-pager easily digested.

  • what steps a health cneter can take

image-20240306-191107.png

A webinar to introduce the idea -

  • is this of value to me?

  • Do I want to try?

Make the case for “why” they would use it to drive interested in downloading and using the guide.

If you have a page where this is downloaded, the idea of “who is this for” could be on the web site with the link, and a map.

It’s digestible in that it is not 50 pages.

What you would need to implement this

  • an analyst would be the person who would do this…

Dr. Chung - that occupation is a key social determinant of health - is there a way to lead with that? Using the term so that it gets picked up, since it is an area of great interest right now.

  • Erica - we could add this to SDOH parts of the web site.

Videos - should we raise awareness? Walk people through how to use this information?

  • Daniel - can ppl get CE/CME? it’s a short video, but could be mixed media

  • Annemarie - I prefer words - maybe a 1 minute video to explain why I should open the guide. It’s not easy for someone to open a big IG like this and know - make the case really quickly. 10 or 20-minutes? I would not watch it.

    • This is why you might want to read this

    • These are the pages you may want to look at All agreed.

  • Daniel - We should aim to highlight the linkage between ODH and improving care of vulnerable/at-risk/high-risk patients. I think any Policy changes always draw attention (thinking about the ONC HTI-1 Rule). And of course anything regarding financial impacts implementing ODH (both positive and/or negative).

  • does seem like there would be value in a 1-4 minute video on the website that might encourage them to open the guide

Slide 5 - HCCNs as conduits?

AnnMarie - Vendor - if things are not well integrated into the EHR, our motivation is low - it is not coming from the members, and if it is coming from EHR vendor in the future. Great idea but let’s wait. Difficult from the HCCN to initiate things

  • funding inspires vs members ask - that’s when HCCNs move.

  • If it is a requirement in the future, we expect the vendor to use it.

  • often creates problems to develop it now if itis going to be done in the future - challenging for HCCN build something ahead of time.

  • Ray - if it is not required, ? may look for local

Erica - Journal Club?

YES - HCN does with Alliance, OCHIN thinks it is good. It’s mainly CHC leadership, clinical folks - make it SDOH.

Dr. Chung - the CHCs will cause the demand to HCCNs and EHR vendors. If they argue that this is critical to quality of care of patients - you can’t give quality care to patients if you are ignoring occupation and industry. Want to build demand from the CHC - that they want this capability w/in the electronic health record.

Erica - if we did a video about how to use the guide, where to disseminate?

We should aim to highlight the linkage between ODH and improving care of vulnerable/at-risk/high-risk patients. I think any Policy changes always draw attention (thinking about the ONC HTI-1 Rule). And of course anything regarding financial impacts implementing ODH (both positive and/or negative).

What is the lift?

  • varies by health center becaue they each have their own workflor

  • Annamrie says Small lift to implement, but to really make it work and for people to use it seems to be harder

  • but once it is in EHR, what is the best time to implement workflow, how long does it take to collect the infromation, continuously educating registrto really make it work and for people to use it seems to be hardertion staff and providers - difference between occupation and industry, how to use - medium to heavy lift.

Daniel -

Add - policy implications, comms and training - what the fnancial impacts to health center and/ro patient -

example - health cneter patient complains of dizziness and nausea and if the provider does not know that they work in a tobacco farm, might think it is not related to green tobacco - could be prompted t

or that someone works with pesticide poisoning ..

public health / preventive medicine has been proven so many times in publication that it has reduced the economic spending on healthcare.

Notes from Recap Meeting - Erica, Ray, Andrea

Desired Outcome: We have a direction for Comms Strategy based on stakeholder feedback

(and especially we know if we are letting a contract for a video – seems like no, but just want to be sure – contracts all have to be in by Friday)

  1. What did we hear?

  2. What are our next steps?

  3. Confirm that we DO NOT need a video contract

Ray - Employment status is already in PRAPARE - can we add occupation and industry?

Erica

  1. Refine the one-pager to emphasize relationship between SDOH and ODH - how it benefits

  2. Integrate the one pager into the web site Create more links on web site to send ppl to ODH site

    1. use SDOH as a hook -we have quotes from Dr. Chung on that from the podcast and presentations)

  3. Re-arranging the Action Guide

  4. Journal Club - May

    1. Identify article for discussion

    2.

  5. Video would be how to use this guide on the web site
